Location: Perth, Western Australia

Sofware: Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lumion

The focus of this project was to explore the relevance that can be found within the irrelevance as well as to find the culture within the buildings we create. Cultural immersion within the spaces of a design can clear up a misunderstanding and thus bring out a newfound thought. The concept behind this building summed up in a short phrase is “breaking free”. Shown through the form of the building, the concept explores the oppression that the indigenous people of Australia and their want to break free from the injustice the white man brought upon them. The rigid and solid structure at the south entrance of the proposed building represents how the indigenous people were forced out of their own culture and into a foreign one. However, as you move through the building the form begin to change into a more organic shape with the materials changing as well. The harsh concrete material flows into a soft local Jarrah wood flooring. The flowing roof helps to illustrate this concept as well going from a square shape flowing out into a more natural organic looking shape.
