Project Type: Mixed Use

Location: Houston, Texas

Sofware: Revit, Grasshopper, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

This thesis proposes the design of a sustainable tall building for mixed-use development in Houston, Texas. As cities grow, as do the size of the buildings within the city. Cities often start to build upward to save space while also accommodating the citizens that live within them. Most of these buildings serve only one purpose, however, tall buildings can be designed to serve multiple purposes. Mixed-use buildings can house many spaces that satisfy the needs of multiple programs. These buildings also often seem to resemble each other and only differ subtly. In many cities, however, some buildings stand out and are easily recognizable. These iconic buildings give the city some contrast making its cityscape more interesting. The goal of the project is to create an iconic high-rise building in Houston that contrasts against the surrounding context. This high-rise building will also seek to incorporate energy-efficient techniques to achieve a LEED rating. This project will aim to explore tall building design and how mixed-use development can be implemented within a tall building.
